Factors Influencing Stroke Recurrence Prevention Behaviors and Well-Being of Patients Attending a Stroke Clinic at a Tertiary Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Rehabilitation care and the prevention of stroke recurrence play important roles in reducing recurrence rates and promoting patients’ well-being. This study aimed to examine factors influencing stroke recurrence prevention behaviors and well-being among patients with stroke.
Methods: This predictive correlational study was conducted among 60 patients with recurrent stroke attending a stroke clinic at a tertiary hospital. Participants were purposively selected. Data were collected between August and September 2025. Research instruments included self-administered questionnaires assessing stroke awareness, stroke beliefs, community support, stroke recurrence prevention behaviors, and well-being. The reliability of the instruments ranged from 0.82 to 0.90. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05.
Results: Stroke awareness (p < 0.001; p = 0.001) and community support (p = 0.002; p = 0.005) were significantly positively associated with stroke recurrence prevention behaviors and well-being among patients with stroke. Together, these variables significantly predicted recurrence prevention behaviors and well-being, accounting for 46.0% (R² = 0.460) and 38.6% (R² = 0.386) of the variance, respectively.
Conclusion: Stroke awareness and community support are important factors influencing recurrence prevention behaviors and well-being among patients with stroke. Enhancing stroke-related knowledge alongside strengthening community support systems may help reduce stroke recurrence and improve patients’ quality of life.
