Factors associating with promoting early childhood development behavior among guardians in Saira subdistrict, Chawang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province

Abstract

Background: Some guardians still have insufficient understanding of the important of surveillance child development. This can result in delayed receiving proper child development program. This study aimed to investigate 1) perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy, interpersonal influence and promoting behaviors for early childhood development and 2) the association between these factors with promoting early childhood development among guardians.


Methods: The descriptive study was carried out among 120 guardians in Sai Ra subdistrict, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The data were collected through questionnaires: personal information, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy, interpersonal influence and promoting behaviors for early childhood development. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.


Results: The mean of perceived benefits was high level (Mean, S.D. = 2.98, 1.28) whereas perceived barriers was low level (Mean, S.D. = 1.23, 0.59). Perceived self-efficacy and interpersonal influence were high level (Mean, S.D. = 1.62, 0.90; 2.96, 0.18, respectively). However, behaviors promoting early childhood development was medium level (Mean, S.D. = 1.60, 0.49). Perceived barriers and perceived self-efficacy showed significantly related to behaviors promoting early childhood development among guardians (p<0.001).


Conclusions: Perceived barriers and perceived self-efficacy showed significantly associated with promoting behaviors toward early childhood development
