THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL SKILL OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER USING BOARD GAME AND PROMPTING

Objectives: This research aimed to develop social skill of children with autism spectrum disorder using board game and prompting.
Material and Methods: The research was a case report with Classroom Action Research design (CAR) including 1) planning 2) action 3) observation and 4) reflection. The instruments used in this study were 1) frequency recorder 2) board game and 3) lesson plan. The target group in this research consisted of 3 children with autism spectrum disorder at age of 6 - 12 years with social skill problem and they were diagnosed by child and adolescent psychiatrist without multiple disabilities.
Results: The result of the development of social skill of children with autism spectrum disorder using board game and prompting was analyzed by frequency of social skill while children play together from the frequency recorder with the visual inspection. The result of study after being taught by using board game and prompting were increase in the first and second cycles of CAR. The using of board game activities made children more fun and better way to improve social skill. Children with autism spectrum disorder had more interact with their peers while using board game and prompting to teach social skill made the activities go smoothly and more efficient.
Conclusion: The conclusion of the study indicated that the social skill of 3 children with autism spectrum disorder after being taught by using board game and prompting were higher the prior to the experiment.
