DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL TOXIC WORKPLACE ASSESSMENT SCALES FOR EDUCATIONAL PERSONNEL IN EASTERN THAILAND
Keywords:
Educational Personnel, Personal and Organizational Toxic Workplace SocietyAbstract
Objectives: This study aims to develop and examine the quality of the toxic workplace society (TWS) assessment scale at both the personal (P-TWS) and organizational (O-TWS) levels for teachers and educational personnel in the eastern region of Thailand.
Material and Methods: Both versions of the assessment had item–objective congruence indices ranging from 0.67 to 1.00. The P-TWS (8 items) consisted of one component with a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO-MSA) value of 0.880, and Bartlett’s test was statistically significant (χ²=1187.642). The overall reliability coefficient was 0.886, and item–total correlations ranged from 0.512 to 0.779. The O-TWS assessment (14 items) consisted of two components: bullying (10 items) and harassment (4 items). The KMO-MSA value was 0.932, Bartlett’s test was statistically significant (χ²=2901.195, p<.001), the overall reliability coefficient was 0.941, and item–total correlations ranged from 0.418 to 0.848. Both assessments showed a statistically significant level of agreement (Kappa=0.553, p<0.05).
Results: The experimental group had significantly higher mean resilience scores both immediately after the intervention and at the follow-up period =3.15, SD=0.15; =3.28, SD=0.17, respectively) than the control group =2.70, SD=0.19 ; =2.71, SD=0.16 , respectively)
Conclusion: Both versions of the assessment scale passed the evaluation and met the measurement and assessment criteria. They can be applied to assess toxic workplace society among teachers and educational personnel, and either version may be appropriately selected according to the assessment context.
