OUTCOMES OF DAY HOSPITAL TREATMENT PROGRAM IN PSYCHIATRIC PATIENTS: A 3-YEAR RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Objectives: To study the outcomes of Day hospital treatment program in psychiatric patients.
Material and Methods: A 3 years’ retrospective study in 51 psychiatric patients at Day hospital, Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry from 1 May 2017 to 30 April 2020 was performed using records of demographic data, treatment at out-patient department, and treatment at Day hospital. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test and t-test with 0.05 level of significance.
Results: 74.5% percent of 51 patients were diagnosed schizophrenia. Vocational training and/or returning to work (78.4%) were the reasons for entering the program. Average duration at Day hospital was 27.6 ± 15.94 weeks. Differences in working performance and frequency of readmission after one year at Day hospital were statistically significant with p-value < 0.001 both.
Conclusion: Outcome of treatment and rehabilitation of Day hospital for psychiatric patients, this intervention can help psychiatric patients return to normal life such as working, studying, reducing admission and staying with family and society.
