Factors Associated with Health Status and Health Behaviors among Staff and Nursing Students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Uttaradit

Abstract

          This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to examine health status, health behaviors, and factors associated with health status and health behaviors among staff and nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Uttaradit. The study included the total population of 609 participants, comprising 48 instructors, 55 support staff, and 506 nursing students. Data were collected using online questionnaires from April to June 2025. The questionnaire included demographic characteristics, health status, and health behaviors based on the 3A-2S principles. Instrument quality was verified using an Index of Item-Objective Congruence ranging from 0.67 to 1.00, and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranged from .79 to .84. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, chi-square test, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
          The results showed that the mean body mass index (BMI) was 22.4 kg/m². Approximately 34.2% of participants were overweight or obese, and 25.1% were at risk for chronic diseases based on waist circumference criteria. Overall health behaviors were at a good level; however, physical activity behavior required improvement. Staff had significantly higher BMI and waist circumference than nursing students (p < .001). Staff demonstrated significantly better dietary and emotional management behaviors, whereas students demonstrated better physical activity behavior (p < .01).
