This quasi-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest research aimed to compare the mean scores of motivation, intention to quit drinking, and alcohol consumption behaviors before and after receiving a motivation enhancement therapy program. The sample consisted of 25 individuals with hazardous and harmful alcohol consumption behaviors who received services at the Kluay Muang Health Center, Kluay Phae Sub-district, Mueang District, Lampang Province. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included a personal information questionnaire, a motivation assessment scale, an intention to quit drinking assessment scale, and an alcohol consumption behavior assessment scale. All instruments were validated by experts, yielding reliability coefficients of .89, .92, and .84, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and the paired t-test.
The results revealed that after receiving the program, the participants demonstrated significantly higher levels of motivation, greater intention to quit drinking, and decreased alcohol consumption behaviors, with statistical significance at the level of less than .01 (p < .01). These findings indicate that the program effectively increases motivation and intention to quit, while reducing drinking behavior in the short term. Long-term follow-ups should be conducted to evaluate the sustained effectiveness of the program in supporting behavioral modification and promoting alcohol cessation within the community.
