This quasi-experimental study utilized a one-group pretest–posttest design to assess the effectiveness of a patient care guideline for individuals receiving peripheral nerve block (PNB) at Thong Pha Phum Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. The sample comprised 30 surgical patients who underwent peripheral nerve block anesthesia and were selected through purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. Data collection occurred from March to September 2025. Research instruments included a knowledge questionnaire (KR-20 = .75), a practice questionnaire (KR-20 = 1.00), and a satisfaction questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = .73). Data analysis used descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.
The results indicated that the mean knowledge score following guideline implementation (Mean = 14.03, S.D. = 1.19) was significantly higher than the pre-implementation score (Mean = 9.70, S.D. = 2.25; p < .001). Patients demonstrated correct self-care practices in 86.70% of cases, with all participants achieving a good level of practice. Overall satisfaction reached the highest level (Mean = 4.33, S.D. = 0.27), and all patients reported high satisfaction (≥ 80%). In summary, the developed patient care guideline for peripheral nerve block effectively increased patient knowledge, promoted appropriate self-care practices, and enhanced patient satisfaction. This guideline may be applied to improve the quality of anesthesia services in community hospital settings.
