Abstract

This action research endeavors to enhance the competencies of professional nurses employed in the labor room at Dokkhamtai Hospital, Phayao Province. All participants consisted of 14 registered nurses employed in the labor room. The research instruments comprised 1) demographic data, 2) a competency questionnaire for registered nurses during the delivery phases, and 3) open-ended questions aimed at identifying issues in competency development. The content validity index was 0.89, and the questionnaire's reliability on competency was 0.96. Three experts also approved the questionnaire. We examined competency differences before and after the activities using descriptive statistics and the dependent t-test.
Research findings reveal that after implementing the competency development activities in accordance with the action research process, emphasizing stakeholder participation and collaboration, participants exhibited a statistically significant enhancement in the competency scores of registered nurses during the delivery phase (p<.05). Development activities enhance nurses' competence and confidence in delivering care to mothers during the labor phase. Consequently, they continue to participate in ongoing processes.
