This descriptive research aimed to study sexuality education literacy and life skills in preventing sexual risk behaviors among nursing students. The sample consisted of 264 first to fourth-year nursing students, calculated using Yamane's (1967). The research instruments comprised: 1) a general information questionnaire, 2) a sexual literacy assessment tool, and 3) a life skills assessment tool for sexual risk behavior prevention. The instruments were validated for content validity and reliability with a reliability coefficient of 0.95. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that nursing students demonstrated the overall sexual literacy level of nursing students was good. Regarding life skills for preventing sexual risk behaviors, eight areas showed good levels: decision-making, problem-solving, thinking, critical thinking, effective communication, interpersonal relationship building, empathy, and stress management. Two areas demonstrated fair levels: self-awareness and emotional management. The overall life skills level for preventing sexual risk behaviors was good.
The findings of this study provide fundamental data for nursing instructors, healthcare personnel, families, and close associates to serve as guidelines for preventing and promoting students' well-being during their college life. These insights can lead to the development of appropriate curriculum and extracurricular activities, enabling students to effectively cope with various challenges, thereby establishing a foundation for enhanced quality of life and professional development.
