Keywords:
Health Behaviors, Pre-Aging Groups, Preparation for the ElderlyAbstract
The objectives of this study were to examine health behaviors to prepare for the elderly among pre-aging groups and to investigate the relationships between personal factors, predisposing factors, enabling factors, reinforcing factors, and health behaviors to prepare for the elderly among pre-aging groups in Pang Sila Thong District, Kamphaeng Phet Province. The sample consisted of 253 people aged 45 – 59 years. Data were collected using questionnaires on personal factors, predisposing factors, enabling factors, reinforcing factors, and health behaviors for preparing for old age. Content validity was assessed with an item-objective congruence index ranging from 0.67 to 1.00, and reliability coefficients of 0.85, 0.78, 0.85, and 0.89, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and relationships were analyzed using the chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient.
The results showed that factors significantly correlated with health behaviors for the elderly among pre-aging groups included personal characteristics such as gender (X2= 18.06, p < 0.001) and income sufficiency (X2 = 4.07, p = 0.04), enabling factors (r = 0.43, p < 0.001), and reinforcing factors (r = 0.59, p < 0.001). Consequently, pertinent local organizations and personnel should assist in initiatives to encourage, enable, and reinforce elements. These elements include ensuring simple, rapid, and sufficient access to medical and public health services and information, as well as motivating social support for pre-aging groups from family, community, and medical staff. This aids pre-aging groups in enhancing their health habits, preparing for old age, and ensuring a smooth transition into old age with optimal well-being, thereby fostering a healthy aging society for the future.
