Factors Influencing Health Literacy to Prevention of Tuberculosis Infection among Nursing Students

Abstract

         This predictive research aimed to study the level of health literacy among nursing students in tuberculosis infection prevention. and to study factors affecting health literacy in preventing tuberculosis infection among nursing students. The population is nursing students. both male and female There were 579 students in Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Nakorn Lampang, 1st - 4th year. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The validity (IOC) was .90, the KR 20 value of the knowledge questionnaire was .78, and the Cronbach’s alpha of attitudes and TB prevention behavior were .83 and .89 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. and to determine factors that could predict health literacy in self-prevention from tuberculosis infection among nursing students. Analyzed by using Multinomial Logistic Regression statistics. The results showed that nursing students had an excellent level of health literacy at 58.50% ( =162.81, SD=15.07), in which Health decision-making had the highest mean ( = 27.28, S.D. = 2.96). Individual factors consisted of Knowledge of tuberculosis infection prevention Attitudes about tuberculosis infection prevention and tuberculosis infection prevention behaviors from practical training were able to jointly predict health literacy in preventing tuberculosis infection among nursing students at 11.90% with a significant .000 significance (Nagelkerke – R2 = 11.90).

         Therefore, colleges should prepare students before practicing on the ward, to prevent tuberculosis infection from practicing by educating and promoting TB infection prevention behaviors, including fostering attitudes about tuberculosis prevention among students to prevent and reduce the risk of tuberculosis infection from further student practice
