The Effects of Promoting Self-breast Examination Using Online Media on Knowledge and Practice of Self-breast Examination Among Patients Receiving Services at Room 101, General Surgery Department, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital

Women are more likely to develop breast cancer and the mortality rate is likely to increase as well. If women can screen themselves for breast cancer, they will be able to get treatment faster. A quasi-experimental study, one group pretest-posttest design aimed to compare knowledge and practice about breast self-examination after received self-breast examination promotion program based on online media. The sample consisted of 29 recipients with breast abnormalities at general surgery department, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. A total of 29 people using a purposive sampling. Research instruments composed of online media of breast self-examination and data collection tools included personal information, the knowledge of breast cancer, and self-breast examination questionnaire and a self-breast examination observation form with reliability of .81, .72 and 1.00, respectively. Data analytics used descriptive statistics and pair t-test.
The results showed that the subjects had statistically significantly higher scores on breast cancer knowledge and self-breast examination knowledge than before promoting self- breast examination using online media (p< .001 and p=.003) and the practice scores of self-breast examination after promoting self-breast examination using online media had statistically significantly higher than before promoting self-breast examination using online media (p< .001) Therefore, promoting self-breast examination using online media can develop the clients’ potential for self-assessment and self-screening.
