The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to examine the effects of a nutritional education program on knowledge and behavior outcomes among pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia at Krathumban hospital in Samutsakhon Province. Thirty pregnant women were recruited based on inclusion criteria into intervention or control group. The intervention group received a nutrition-promoting program, combining questionnaire regarding knowledge of high-iron diet foods and self-care behavior assessment scale. Using statistical analyses and paired t-test was used to analyze.
A total of thirty pregnant women were recruited for participation in either the intervention or control group, based on inclusion criteria. The intervention group received a nutrition-promoting program, combining questionnaire regarding knowledge of high-iron diet foods and self-care behavior assessment scale. Using statistical analyses and paired t-test was used to analyze.
The average of knowledge regarding high-iron foods was found to be significant high (t = 8.48, p < .05), comparing to the pre-training phase. In addition, the behavior of food consumption and iron-fortified tablet usage exhibited a significant increase (t = 8.28 and 5.02, p < .05) upon completion of program. This recommended that the application of guidelines for managing and enhancing the quality of care in pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia is deemed necessary for maternal and child nurses. n
