Predictive Factors of Self-Esteem in the Elderly with Chronic Diseases in Mueang District, Lampang Province

The objective of the research was to study the level of self-esteem and predictive factors in the elderly with chronic diseases in Mueang district, Lampang province. Three hundred and four older with chronic diseases were selected using multistage random sampling technique. Data were collected between May 2021 and July 2021. The research tools were the psychosocial status and self-esteem in the elderly with chronic disease questionnaires with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient values of .75 and .83, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and binary logistic regression.
The results showed that the mean self-esteem score was at a higher level . Disease , autonomy, roles and duties , and relationship could predict self-esteem in the elderly with chronic diseases for 41.7% of the variance (adj. R 2 = .645, p < .001). Per the findings of the study, nurses and healthcare providers must consider these significant factors to develop self-esteem enhancement program for the elderly with chronic diseases who live in the community settings.
