Abstract

This research aims to study the activities implementations, readiness, and approaches of school management for the elderly under coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The study was a descriptive research, divided into two steps.Step 1 was associated with the activity implementations and the readiness for school management for the elderly by utilizing a questionnaire with the director/caregivers from 32 elderly schools. The method for selecting the sample was the quota selection method, and data were analyzed by utilizing percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation. Step 2 was associated with presenting school management approaches for the elderly by interviewing 15 people who have knowledge or experience of school management for the elderly. Data were analyzed by content analysis.

The results showed that during pandemic, most elderly schools refrain from organizing activities, selecting the sample by utilizing purposive sampling method. Concerning the readiness to manage schools for the elderly, the overall level of readiness was at a high level.Regarding the management approaches of the elderly schools during the pandemic situation, the school administration committee should continually convene some meetings to plan and modify some of the activities, concentrating on preventive measures both health checks and the readiness of learners. Moreover, they should provide prevention education to the committee and those involved as well as adjust the activities to be in line with the context of the severity of pandemic. Relevant organizations and elderly schools should adopt approaches to facilitate schools for the elderly who can resume learning activities safely in schools under the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
