The purpose of this quasi-experimental research, one-group pre-test and post-test design, aimed to study the effectiveness of the project-based learning on life skills of nursing students. Forty-nine second year nursing students participated in this study. The research instruments were 1) the project-based lesson plan on life skills of a 15-week of the learning by activities subject, 2) the life skills questionnaires of nursing students, and 3) the satisfaction questionnaires of the project-based learning. Data collection took place during June to October 2020. Descriptive statistics, and paired t-test were used for data analysis.
The results were revealed that the overall mean scores and each part mean scores of nursing students’ life skills before and after the project-based study were not different (p >.05). When considering the average life skills scores of nursing students for each item in each part, it was found that the mean scores of the three life skills (empathetic skill, decision-making skill and problem-solving skill) after project-based learning were significantly higher than before project-based learning at .05. The overall mean scores of nursing students’ satisfaction of the project-based study were high. Suggestions: Project-based learning is an effective teaching strategy for developing of nursing students' life skills. It should be promoted as a teaching strategy in general education subjects and nursing subjects to improve and develop nursing students to increase life skills.
