Keywords:
Dance posture to Lampang, Muscle mass, ElderlyAbstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of using the Lampang dance posture to increase the muscle mass of elderly women living in Lampang province, Thailand. The study sample consisted of 40 sedentary older women was obtained from Lampang municipality, Muang district, Lampang province, using a purposive random sampling technique. The sample was divided into two equal groups (experimental and control groups). The control group received routine care, while the experimental group received the Lampang dance posture to increase muscle mass regarding self-care behaviors, which was based on an education supportive and nutrition therapy for the elderly women who had low physical performance. This instruments consisted of personal data questionnaire, body composition meter, SARC-F scores correlating with low physical performance. Data analyzed and presented in forms of frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, the inferential statistics including t-test and Repeated measurement ANOVA were used to compare mean scores muscle mass of the elderly.
As a result, the experimental group's mean muscle mass scores after one month, three months, and six months were significantly higher than those in the control group (p = .01). Similarly, the mean muscle mass of the elderly after one month, three months, and six months in the experimental group was significantly higher than before intervention (p = .01).
Therefore, exercise should be encouraged by teaching the Lampang dance posture in term knowledge of self-care and nutrition therapy to elderly and those with low muscle mass in order increase muscle mass.
