The Effect of Changing Health Behavior Program for the Diabetes Patients in Samai Subdistrict, Sop Prap District, Lampang

The quasi-experimental research aims to study the effects of changing health behavior program for 60 diabetes patients in Samai Subdistric, Sop Prap District, Lampang. The study was consisted a diabetes patients’ group and a control group containing 30 persons each. The experimental group received a health changing program according to 1)The process of improving the potential of self-care for diabetic patient 2)The process of creating the perception of diabetes complications 3)The process of retelling positive experiences 4)Evaluating health status, knowledge and self-care behavior after program. The control group received the traditional diabetes therapy. The changing health behavior program, questionnaire of diabetes knowledge and self-care behavior and, fasting blood sugar (FBS) measurement were determined in this study. These data were collected from June to August 2020. The statistic, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and independent t-test were used for data analysis at the significance level of 0.05 (p ≤.05).
The results revealed the experimental group had average scores of knowledge, self-care behavior and FBS in diabetes significantly higher than before experimentation and control group (P<.05). In addition, a comparison between the experimental group and control group found that the experimental group had significantly higher than the control group in the average score of knowledge, self-care behavior and FBS in diabetes (P <.05) Therefore, the changing health behavior program enhance positive attitude on diabetes self-care behavior and affect health behavior change of patients in blood glucose control and diabetes complications reduction.
