Healthy Literacy and Self-Care Behavior of Type 2 Diabetes Patients Who Are Able to Glycemic Control and Uncontrol

This descriptive research aimed to examine health literacy and self-care behavior among type 2 diabetic patients and to compare health literacy and self-care behaviors between patients with diabetes who are controlled and uncontrolled their level of glycemic blood sugar. Research samples were 102 diabetic patients receiving medical services in Bang Sai Sub-District health promoting hospital, Muang, Chonburi Province from July to September 2020. Research instrument was a questionnaire adapted from a literature review based on Health literacy framework of Nutbeam's (2009) and Department of Service Support Ministry of Public Health (2014). There were 56 questions divided into 3 parts. The instrument had reliability value between .70 to .96. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and independent t-test. The research results found that, the sample who glycemic controlled blood sugar had statistically significant difference mean score at .05 level on health literacy and mean score of self-care behavior compared to people who uncontrolled blood sugar levels (t = 5.59, p <.001), (t = 4.29, p <.001), respectively.
