Study of Problems, Needs and Self-care Behavior of Teenage Pregnancy in Lampang Province

This descriptive study aimed to examine problems needs and self-care behavior of adolescent pregnant women.The population were pregnant teenagers under age of 20 years, who attended for antenatal care at Healthcare facility under the Ministry of Health in Lampang Province. The data were collected by Cluster sampling from 13 districts in Lampang Public Province during May to October 2017. The samples were 152 pregnant teenagers. The instrument was the questionnaires that were validated by experts with an IOC from 0.67-1.00, and reliability alpha Cronbach of 0.72 was obtained. Data were analyzed by quantitative statistics using frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviation and Chi-square test.
Results showed that 1) Problems and needs of adolescent pregnant women, the highest level of physical problems had frequent urination, the highest level of economic problems was worry about increasing cost and the highest level of social problem was feeling embarrassed about being pregnant. Moreover, level of emotional, psychological, psychosocial problems was low level. The total of needs average is high level. 2) Self-care behavior of adolescent pregnant women found that the overall mean was good level. 3) The comparison self-care behaviors means of teenage pregnant women between the ready to get pregnant group and non-ready for pregnant group found that the self-care behaviors means in ready for pregnant group was good level which is higher than non-ready for pregnant group was moderate level, and significantly different p 0.02. ( = 7.55).
Recommendations: The finding showed that the self - care behaviors means in self - care responsibilities aspect of teenage pregnant women were highest in both groups, was a basic data to promote the self - care behaviors in this aspect in the both groups and should be used to develop a program to care for teenage pregnant women with specific needs.
