Family-Centered Care: Transforming Knowledge to Practice for Preparing Caregivers of Stroke Patients

Stroke is an immediate illness that is cause of disability after the patient has gone a critical period. Disability that occurs with patients affect. Therefore, it is necessary to provide care which centered on the patients’ family. Family-Centered Care is importance concept for encouraged the family based on respect for the role of family participate and receive assistance from health care team including promote to have normal lifestyle based on the differences in the basic structure, economic, social and culture of each family. It has 4 compartment including 1) respect 2) information sharing 3) participation and 4) collaboration. The objective of this article is present the concept of Family - Centered Care in apply care for stroke patients. The author consider that family- centered care concept has a good for nursing program and apply to preparing the caregivers of stroke patients. Accordingly, it must be appropriate and consistent to the needs of both patients and family member since the patient being admitted to stroke unit until before discharged from the hospital. This is to provide quality of life for stroke patients.
