Factors Influencing Well-being among People Living with Schizophrenia in Chon Buri Province

Abstract

      A descriptive correlation research was employed to explore the relation among four selected factors including personal factors, the belief about well-being, the perception of health control, and social support. In addition, predictive factors of well-being among people living with schizophrenia were investigated. The subjects were 102 people who were diagnosed with schizophrenia, recruited from mental health consumers at the outpatient unit at the Chonburi Centre Hospital. Research instruments consisted of the surveys of belief about well-being, perception of health control, social support, and well-being, with an internal consistency of 0.82, 0.89, 0.85, and 0.87 respectively. Data were collected from March to May 2012, and were analyzed using the analyses of descriptive statistic, correlation coefficient, and multiple regressions.

          It was revealed that there was a high level of the belief about well-being ( = 3.3, S.D. = .52), the state of well-being ( = 4.18, S.D. = .40), and social support (= 3.28, S.D. = .43). Meanwhile, the perception of health control were reported at a middle level ( = 2.99, S.D. = .52). In addition, there was an identification of the relation between the state of well-being and three selected factors including the belief about well-being, the perception of health control, and social support (p<.01). The three factors together predicted the state of well-being with the percentage of 54.2 (p< .001).
