The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of self-herbal compress on the pain reduction of the elderly with knee pain between before and after self-medicated herbal compresses. The participant was a group of elderly with knee pain due to the health screening of 1,315 people at Thoen hospital in the fiscal year 2018. The participants were selected based on the purposive sampling and voluntarily participated in 132 cases by self-herbal compress program including providing knowledge about compresses, use of herbs and continuous monitoring throughout the 12 weeks. The instruments for data collection included the herbal self-compress program and pain assessment, the distance of knee pain after herbal compress. Data were collected about painful, the distance of pain the first time, you visit the program, then followed up 4th, 8th, and 12th week and satisfaction in relieving knee pain from June to August, 2018. Descriptive statistics and one way repeated measures analysis of variance were used to analyze the data.
The result revealed that elderly with knee pain at the end of self-herbal compress program for 4 weeks, painful, distance of time to pain and the satisfaction before and after the use of the self-herbal compress changed in a better way than before receiving the program. (p<0.05). Therefore, encouraging the elderly to self-herbal compress continuously can handle pain, reduce the distance of pain and to satisfy the elderly as well.
