Factors associated with job strains of nurses those working at 30 bed-size community hospitals in Lampang

Abstract

This descriptive research was designed to investigate factors associated with job strains of nurses, working at 30 bed-size community hospitals in Lampang. The samples of the study were 214 professional nurses, recruited by proportional stratified random sampling. The research instruments were questionnaires consisting of personal information, familial background, occupational factors and Suanprung Stress Test-20. Statistical methods used in this research were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and One-way Anova. The results showed that the majority of the samples (40.75 percent) had moderate stress level and 36.9 percent of the samples had high stress level, 16.8 percent of the samples had severe stress level and 5.6 percent of the samples had mild stress level. The study showed that significant personality characteristic factors (p <0.05) associated with nurses’ stresses were age, work experience, revenue, revenue VS expenditure, family obligations, workplace, job responsibility and sleeping habits. The study showed that significant working factors (p <0.05) associated with nurses’ stresses were excessive workload, facing unexpected events or deaths, monotonous work, inadequate nurses, inappropriate workload and insufficient welfare.
