This study is cross-sectional descriptive research aimed at examining health literacy and health prevention behaviors regarding heat-related illnesses among village health volunteers (VHVs) in Chuen Chom District, Maha Sarakham Province. The sample consisted of 194 village health volunteers (VHVs) from Chuen Chom District, Maha Sarakham Province. Data were collected in June 2025. The research instrument was an assessment questionnaire on environmental health literacy and behaviors for preventing health impacts from heat. Developed by the Health Impact Assessment Division, Department of Health, based on Sørensen's concept, data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Spearman's rank correlation coefficient), with a significance level of 0.05.
The study found that participants had a very good overall health literacy level in all four areas (X̄ = 4.21, SD = 0.67), with the decision-making aspect having the highest score (X̄ = 4.43, SD = 0.70). Overall health behavior was also at a very good level (X̄ = 2.72, SD = 0.27). Health literacy had a statistically significant positive correlation with health behaviors in preventing heat-related illnesses among village health volunteers in Chuen Chom District, Maha Sarakham Province (r = 0.631, p < 0.001). This indicates that when village health volunteers have higher health literacy, they tend to engage in more appropriate health behaviors to prevent heat-related illnesses. Therefore, developing health literacy is an effective strategy for promoting self-protective behaviors against heat-related illnesses.
