Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of the protection motivation theory application program on work-related accident prevention behaviors among garbage collectors. Participants included 46 garbage collectors who were randomly assigned to either a control group (n=23) or an experimental group (n=23). Control group received a protection motivation theory application program composed of four sessions. The questionnaire was used to collect work related accidental prevention behaviors of participants on the first and eighth week. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Independent t-test. The findings revealed that after the experiment, the experimental group had a higher average score of work related accidental prevention behaviors than the control group (p<.05). It is therefore recommended by this study should be implemented promote knowledge, attitudinal change and to promote self-protective behaviors among the garbage collectors.
