Illness perception of diabetic nephropathy among patient with diabetes mellitus type 2

Abstract

Descriptive research aims to study illness perception of clients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for 1-5 years at risk of diabetic kidney disease and having urine albumin ≥ 30 mg/gcreatinine to 141 clients. Data were collected from questionnaires developed according to the conceptual framework of the common sense model of self-Regulation (CMS) and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire(BIPQ). The study found female (68.3%); mean age was 54.2, S.D. = 6.74; education level was mainly primary school (90.8%); urine albumin 30 – 300 mg/g creatinine was 68.1%; mean HbA1C was7.76, S.D. = 1; total illness perception score was found in a high level ( = 7.47, S.D. = 1.36). Illness perception on the cause of the illness dimension was medication and food (41.2%) dimension containing more items presented different level of perception.
