This research is descriptive qualitative research. The purpose was to study illness perception of patients with recurrent renal stones and chronic kidney disease who were admitted at the tertiary hospital in Muang district Khon Kaen province. The 12 participants were selected applying purposive sampling. The data were collected and studied applying personal data interviewing forms. Semi-structure in-depth interview, tape recording and field note were conducted for 1 month, between 1 to 30 April 2017.
The study indicated that Patients with recurrent renal stones and chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney identity is classified into 2 types, 1) “Tai for or tai seuam” (Kidney deterioration). 2) “Ti wie” (tai bor het ngaan: non function kidney). The causal perception of chronic kidney disease is 1) “Phen num naew, pho mae hai ma” (Genetic) and 2) “Yoan chaw khong” (My own behaviour). Caused by eating habits that promote renal stones and unclean water, resulting in renal stones and as a result chronic kidney disease. The illness perception of the time line included 1) pen pup-pap bor tan tang toh. (acute) 2) pen dohn. (chronic),pen laew pen eek. (recurrent). The perception of chronic kidney disease consequences included1) pen tam ma daa. (nothing uncommon) 2) There is a physical impact. “Phen tai wie law ga taii” (die only). The psychological impact is “Yan taii”. (fear of death). Perception of cure and controllability of chronic kidney disease were 1) rak saa daai yoo (treatable) and 2) rak saa bor sao. : Cannot treat because the renal stone will be the recurrent, you have kidney failure, will continue to need dialysis and finally died.
The results of this study helps medical personnel understand the illness perception of patient with recurrent renal stone and chronic kidney disease in various aspects . The researcher will use this knowledge to improve the information to achieve the correct perception according to academic principles. Preventing recurrence of renal stones and slowing the deterioration of the kidneys so that patients do not continue to progress to chronic kidney disease at the end.
