Abstract

The developmental research aimed to develop the patient’s ventilator care protocol on outcomes after using the patient's ventilator care protocol. The development process was conducted on the five steps comprised of: 1) identifying or defining a problem, 2) considering alternative courses of action for solving a problem by developing the patient ventilator care protocol based on research evidenced, 3) selecting a course of action: Purposive sampling was choosing divided into two groups including the 18 registered nurses (RNs) who work a full-time and the patients were treated by ventilator in a male medical ward. The data collection was provided the education of the patient ventilator care protocol for RNs, pre- posttest, workshop by using demonstrate - return demonstrate and evaluation by observing their practices between June to August 2016., 4) Reflection of the patient ventilator care protocol after an implementation of the meeting with RNs and 5) Summaries, improved and developing the patient's ventilator care protocol. This step was collecting the patient's data between September 2016 - 2017.  Data analysis was using the descriptive statistic as a percentage, mean, and comparison analyzed by using a paired t-test of statistical.

                The results showed that after the nurses participating in the training program. They have result of mean scores between pre and post examination were significantly higher scores of the post - examination all aspects (p < .001). While, the patient outcomes were investigating found that a successful rate of ventilator weaning were higher (92.32 %), and also an unplanned extubation rate, reintubation rate were reduced (8.10%) and the length of stay were reduced (between 4 – 30 day of admitted, average 14 days).

                Based on these results recommend that  nurses should be active learning for up to date their knowledge by participant with an education program. Lead to effects of nursing implement that can find the patient's causes lead to assure to make decisions based on evidence of weaning protocol. In order to the nurse must provide nursing care to their patient’s ventilator based on standardized and quality of care lead to a good outcome.
