Abstract

Dengue fever patients have the potential for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), a condition caused by continuous stimulation of blood clotting process. The fibrin builds up in blood vessels especially small blood vessels (microcirculation) thus causing ischemia of various organs and finally resulting in organ failure, A large amount of platelets used in the clotting process results in lower concentration of blood platelets that contributes to bleeding. Medical technologist is one of the multidisciplinary that is important in the patient care process both in providing laboratory results for the physician and blood and/or blood components for treatment of the patient accurately, safely and quickly including to the surveillance of transfusion reaction's incident.
