Abstract

Infection of Streptococcus suis is caused of meningitis, septicemia and hearing loss in patients. Patient is necessary cured fastly to decrease the mortality rate. The report show that the high prevalence of disease in the north of Thailand. Currently, it increase all region. This article is to study prevalence and susceptibility pattern of  Streptococcus suis at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima hospital. The retrospective descriptive study using data from Microbiology Laboratory. Data is collected from 5 years ( January 2012 – December 2016). There are 36 strains (0.11%) in 2012, 26 strains (0.06%) in 2013, 45 strains (0.11%) in 2014, 60 strains (0.14%) in 2015 and 73 strains (0.16%) in 2016. Mostly, The Streptococcus suis can isolated from blood (75%) and cerebrospinal fluid . There are only four strains can isolated from other secretory. The most infection is found in male (78%). The average age is 58 years old in male and 65 years old in female. The result of antimicrobial susceptibility is susceptible to three antibiotics (penicillin, ceftriaxone and vancomycin) although the penicillin has decreased susceptibility. However, penicillin is the main drug to treatment of S.suis infection with good effectively.
