Alcohol withdrawal management
Abstract
Alcohol withdrawal assessment with CIWA-ar was applied in Srithanya Hosp since 1998, then CIWA-ar version Srithanya was applied on perception items guideline for alcohol withdrawal management were established since 2004. Accord to CIWA-ar score, the severity of symptoms can be classified into 4 groups mild (<10), moderate (10-18) moderately severe (19-24), very severe (>24). C or DZP is the drug of choice for treatment and dosage is varied to severity of sympto For moderately severe to very severe symptoms, loading dose of CDZ (200 m and DZP (50 mg) should be administered while the others receive regular dose schedule. During the first 6 months of 2007, there were 114 alcoholic patients admi to the hospital. Majority was at mild symptoms. Average of length of stay w 13 days. Most were recovered within 5 days. Medical complications found in cases within 3 days of treatment.
Conclusion Alcohol withdrawal treatment with symptoms › trigger regim should be the standard guideline. Other medical complication and relapse prevent by Matrix model should be integrated.
