Receiving psychological care from parents of junior high school students

Objective The purpose of this descriptive research was to compare receiving psychological care from parents perceived by junior high school students with and without depression.
Materials and methods Subjects were comprised of junior high school students in Suratthani municipality schools who had depression and did not have depression.There were two groups of 98,
totalling 196 students. Subjects were simply randomed the questionnaire of receiving psychological care from parents which was constructed by using concepts of basic psychological needs was an equipment
to conduct. The data was collected in September 2008.The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and compared psychological care from parents.
Results The results showed that 60.2% of female junior high school students had depression. This group had an average age of 13.5 years and had mean CDI score of 17.5.There was an equal
ratio between male and female without depression in junior high school students. The average age was 13.6 years and had mean CDI score of 17.5. Overall, receiving psychological care from parents
perceived by junior high school students with and without depression was at a high level. It was found that junior high school students with depression perceived that they received psychological care from
parents signifi cantly less than those without depression.It also found that junior high school students with depression perceived that they received psychological care from parents in 3 signifi cant components.
These included receiving security and consistency, receiving self-esteem enhancement and receiving love and attention, less than those without depression.
Conclusion Adolescents with depression perceived that they received psychological care from parents signifi cantly less than those without depression
