New cases of Severe primary headache : Characteristic and health impact

The study was to survey primary headache in Suansaranrom Psychiatric setting during February 16, 2005 to August 15, 2005. 748 patients attended at the neurologieal clinic were in vited to complete the frst part of questionnaire. Only eligible cases were asked to answer the patient characteristic questionnaire including general characteristics, pain pattern, severity of pain and impact of headache on disability and quality of living. Neurologist evaluated them according to part two of the questionnaire. There were 104 cases;26 male and 78 feamle. Average age was 33.7+11.4 years. The prevalence of migraine was highest at 51%, tension headache 32.7% and mixed type 11.5%. For the impact of headache to patents, 75% had work abstinence. more than one time in past 12 months and 54.8% had daily life activity with friend or family interfered. In conclusion, primary headache is a common condition which general practitioners should know how to treat which reduce disability of headache sufferers.Downloads
