Roles of local government administration in mental health promotion and prevention in Thailand

The local government administration is one of the important organizations that involve and create success of promoting mental health among population. Building cooperation with local government organizations is the key success factor that should be promoted as an important mechanism of operations. This paper aims to present empirical evidence related to roles and responsibilities of local government organizations in promoting mental health among the population. Research reports, academic papers, and case studies from the Thai Journals Online (ThaiJO) database were reviewed, analyzed, and synthesized. In summary, there are three main roles of local government organizations in mental health promotion and prevention: 1) promoting public participation, 2) supporting resources, and 3) promoting physical health and mental health in the community. The findings could raise awareness in terms of collaboration for promoting mental health, reducing risk factors, and building seamless access to mental health services for people with mental health and psychiatric problems in the community.
