Abstract

Objective: To study the association among lifestyle, social stigma and discrimination, and life satisfaction in terms of sexuality disclosure of homosexual male university students in northern Thailand.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 145 homosexual male students from a university in northern Thailand. Questionnaires consisted of lifestyle, social stigma experience, social discrimination perception, and satisfaction with sexuality disclosure. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, and binary logistic regression.

Results: Gender identity, drug use, being blamed by family members, being verbally abused by friends, and perceived stigmatization as abnormal people were significantly related to the dissatisfaction with sexuality disclosure.

Conclusion: Homosexual male students who experience stigma and discrimination from family and friends are dissatisfied with sexuality disclosure. They should be provided with mental health counseling and positive support for promoting life satisfaction and adaptation to society.
