The Participation of People in Solid Waste Management of Samet Sub-District Administration Organization, Maung Buriram District, Buriram Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study the participation of people in waste management of Samet sub-district administration organization, Muang Buriram district, Buriram province. The samples were 290 people as representatives of households aged 20 years old with a duty to manage solid waste. Data were collected using a questionnaire validated by 3 experts. The accuracy of the instrument was evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha coefficient which was 0.886. Data were collected between 1st May 2023 - 30th June 2023. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics in terms of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, and also chi-square test and Pearson's Product Moment correlation coefficient.

The results indicated that the overall participation of the people in solid waste management was at a moderate level (46.21%), and then at a high level (37.24%) and at alow level (16.55%). Sex, motivation and attitude towards solid waste management had significant correlation with participation in solid waste management. (p-value <0.001)

The results suggest that the responsible agencies should encourage more people to participate in the management of solid waste by organizing activities to create incentives for participation and publicizing the benefits to create a good attitude towards solid waste management in the community and provide more opportunities for people to participate in solid waste management.
