Capacity Bulding of Village Health Volunteers on Storage and Collection for Used Insulin Injection Needles among Diabetic Patients at Nonthai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

The aim of this research was to develop the Capacity Building of village health volunteers (VHV) on storage and collection for used insulin needles of diabetic patients at Nonthai District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The study comprised the following steps: study current situation of the storage and collection of the insulin needles employing by using a basic survey. develop the erformance of village health volunteers by workshop. Then all village health volunteer had brainstorm the correct method for storage and collection the used insulin needles in order to advise the patients.To evaluate of two expected results after workshop program including: the knowledge of 133 village health volunteers by using pre and post test knowledge  scores.  The  amount of  used needles were collected both before and after 1 months  of the  workshop. The results from the study of current situation show that the appropriate storage and collection of the insulin needles had been advised to new diabetic patients, the old patient is not recommended. However, there was lacking of follow-up with the patients on storage and collection of the used insulin needles. The average knowledge scores after workshop of village health volunteers  increased when  compared to their scores before the activities (p < 0.001). The increasing of 46.45% used needles were collected to properly dispose.
