The Development Model to Support the Competencies of Nursing During Childbirth Among Staff Nurses in the Delivery Room Phonphisai Hospital, Nong Khai Province

Abstract

              The objectives of this action research are for developing the models to support the competency of the professional nurses during operation maternity nursing.  Maternity nursing work of Phonphisai Hospital, Nongkhai Province, doing the research during January to May 2020. The sample groups were 13 professional nurses in maternity nursing work, by purposive sampling. There were 3 phases of the research .They were

• Studying of the problem situations, analysis the problems of the operation during childbirth.
• Developing the models to support the competency in birth operation by creating the innovation “Survive Puppet Childbirth Safety Mom.” This innovation was for practical training and supporting skills in childbirth for 1 month until the sample groups could work really during childbirth.
• Assessment: The results of the skill assessment in delivery of the 13 professional nurses sample groups in maternity nursing work which collected the delivery from 75 people who gave the childbirth at Phonphisai Hospital during 1^st April - 31^st May 2020.

     The research instruments were dialogue groups, the tests about the knowledge of normal delivery skills, the satisfaction questionnaires about the creative innovation “Survive Puppet Childbirth Safety Mom.” Analysis and presenting data, the results of the research were shown by percentage average, standard deviation and Paired T-Test and the qualitative data presenting by content analysis. 

     The results of the research found that the creative innovation “Survive Puppet Childbirth Safety Mom” to support the competency by the researcher did teaching demonstration and backward demonstration individually in the sample groups and practiced until passing the standard of delivery room. The assessment of the knowledge before development competency found that the average score was 7.77 (S.D. = 1.01) and after development the average score was higher than the preceding at 9.50 (S.D. =0.88). The research also found that after development competency of the sample groups had more knowledge by statistical significance (P-value < 0.001).  Practical competency before development, the average scores were in more level 4.17 (S.D. = 0.27) and after development, the average scores were in the most level 4.85 (S.D. = 0.20). The result of comparison for the scores in practical competency before and after development, the groups’ scores were higher by statistical significance (P-Value < 0.001) and satisfaction was on the most level. The results of the development could reduce the incidence from practical nursing during childbirth.
