Situations and factors associated with sexual intercourse of high school students in a district school located in Khon Kaen province

Abstract

The cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study the situation and factors related to sexual intercourse of high school students in a district school in Khon Kaen. The sample group consists of 128 samples. The data were collected by using questionnaire analyzing a reliability. A reliability is 0.79 by using stratified sampling random method. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics include frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum and Chi-Square test

The study found that most of them are female, 59.37 percent, aged 16 years, the most 48.44 percent, the situation of sexual intercourse of the sample group used to have sex 17.97%.  The factors that related to sexual intercourse with statistical significance including having close friends who used to have sexual intercourse (OR=9.70; 95% CI of OR: 3.23 to 30.23, p-value<0.001), having close friends visiting amusement place (OR=2.90; 95% CI of OR: 0.99 to 8.24, p-value=0.024), having close friends watching pornography (OR=4.18; 95% CI of OR: 1.31 to 12.69, p-value=0.004), use of drugs (OR=7.73; 95% CI of OR: 1.01 to 95.66, p-value=0.013), used to drink alcoholic beverages (OR=6.95; 95% CI of OR: 2.35 to 21.91, p-value<0.001), self-esteem (OR=2.68; 95% CI of OR: 1.01 to 8.90, p-value=0.049), and sexual risk behaviors (OR=4.12; 95% CI of OR: 1.45 to 12.50, p-value=0.003)

Teachers and parents should give correct advice on how to prevent sexual intercourse for the students in order to prevent further problems such as unwanted pregnancy.
