Health Literacy and alcohol consumption in senior secondary school students, Chaiyaphume Province

Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to expressive alcohol consumption problem, health literacy and alcohol consumption in senior secondary school student, Chaiyaphume Province. 349 participants were recruited by a systematic random sampling and collected data via questionnaires. Results of the study be presented as mean, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum. Study outcomes illustrated that more than half of students ingested alcohol (58.4%). Girls participated close to double of boys (1.9:1). Age average was 16.48 years, maximum was 18 years and minimum was 14 years. Most of members were highest senior students who were supported living cost from their parents (58.10%) and more than half (56.73%) were support monthly less than 3,000 Thai baht. One-third (31.52%) of family salary was between 10,000 – 19,999 Thai baht. Turn to health literacy; knowledge dimension was presented in high level (49.28%), health service and health data accessibility was moderate rate (39.26%), communicable skills were moderate rate (49.00%), decision making was moderate rate (41.83%) and heal management dimension was moderate rate (5.87%) Suggestion: An appropriate alcohol consumption campaign and adequate activities such a music plying and any sport should be arranged for students who were high alcohol consumption group.
