Knowledge Attitudes and Practices in Prevention of Mpox Outbreak among Thai Traditional Massage in Bangkok, Thailand

Abstract

This exploratory study aimed to determine the level of knowledge attitudes and practices in monkeypox (Mpox) prevention among Thai Traditional Massage in Bangkok. The sample consisted of 151 registered among Thai Traditional Massage therapists in Bangkok. A purpose designed sampling method was used by the way of a questionnaire, which included knowledge attitudes and prevention practices of Thai Traditional Massage in Bangkok. The questionnaire had an IOC value of 0.91 and Cronbach's alpha coefficient in sections 2, 3 and 4 were 0.79, 0.81 and 0.70 respectively. The results showed that 50.3% of the Thai Traditional Massage therapists had low knowledge of Mpox. The percentage of participants who had correctly answered in each items of knowledges were 1. Cause of disease 7.9% 2. source of disease 23.2% 3. Sign and symptoms 11.9% 4. Disease spread 39.7% 5. Treatment 24.5% 6. Prevention 41.1% 7. Disease controlling 50.3 %. Results showed that their attitude was a moderate level of 51.0 % included in this was that their attitudes relating to the use of gloves when providing a massage was lowest. However, their practice were high 78.1%. Meanwhile, the completeness of screening and wearing gloves when performing a massage was low 6.6 % and only 24.5% respectively. In conclusion, most Thai Traditional Massage therapists have a low level of knowledge about Mpox, moderate attitude and the practice of preventing Mpox is high.
