Characteristics of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Acute Respiratory Infection clinic, Institute for Urban Disease Control and Prevention.

Abstract

This study is descriptive study aimed to analysis clinical characteristics of patients confirmed Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in acute respiratory infection clinic, Institute for Urban Disease Control and Prevention. Sample groups come from clients visiting to acute respiratory infection clinic, Institute for Urban Disease Control and Prevention, since 6^th March 2020 to 14^th April 2020 with detected of COVID-19. The specimen were collected from nasopharyngeal cavity and tested by RT-PCR. The data is analyzed by the descriptive statistic to clarify the frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation.

The results revealed that  There are 97 cases of COVID-19 patients classified as  male 50.52%, female 49.48%, average age 36.02 years, Thai nationality 97.94%. Most of careers are personal business and the night pub staffs (DJ, MC and liquor presenter) 25.77%, The number of patients was living in Bangkok 83.51%, Nonthaburi 4.3%, most stayed  in central of Bangkok 29.11% followed by south of Bangkok 18.98%. According the PUI criteria, generally patients compatible with the criteria 89.69%, and incompatible the criteria 10.31%. According to the risk factors , the majority of clients went to the crowed place 64.97%, followed by contact with Coronavirus infected patients 25.77%. The crowed places are Thonglor entertainment area 55.93%, followed by boxing stadium 33.89%. About the symptoms, most clients showed asymptomatic 62.89%, cough 48.57%, runny nose 31.43% and sore throat 28.57%. About follow up treatment , Self recovery has been shown in COVID-19 patients around 100%.

Then should find  the statistic shows that most of COVID-19 patients have been working as staffs at night club such as DJ,MC and liquor presenter, the business man,  . They have been staying in the central and the south part of Bangkok. The majority of clients are asymptomatic. The cause of transmission is the mass gathering in crowed place especially entertainment area and boxing stadium.  Therefore, the screening of acute respiration tract infection must be focusing on those who visited high risk places or close contact person for the ultimate consequence of COVID-19 control.
