Abstract

ABSTRACT


BACKGROUND


                 Closure of low midline cesarean section incision , a variety of skin closure techniques can be used; for example interrupted suture, subcuticular suture or even skin staples. post-operative interrupted vertical mattress nylon suture less wound dehiscence but after stitch off  may be not beautiful. Staples used as an alternative to speed of skin closure ,less pain level and wound infection. Therefore ,choices of skin closure techniques depends on the experience or discretion of the surgeon and and satisfaction of patients.


OBJECTIVE


                To compare post-operative pain after cesarean section ,time taken in skin closure ,rates of would infection and satisfaction of patients from two skin closure techniques- skin staples interrupted vertical mattress nylon suture.


METHODS


                A retrospective descriptive study was conducted in 357 cesarean section patients from October 2016 - September 2017 in Fang  Hospital. Data collected from medical records comprised of patients history and physical examination. Descriptive statistics and Independent t test and Fisher’s Exact test were used to analyzed the data.


RESULTS


                Time taken in skin closure was associated with statistically significant at 0.05. No incidence wound infections occurred in neither group.


CONCLUSION AND DISCUSSION


                Staples was superior to conventional suturing in time consuming but had higher price. Therefore ,choices of skin closure techniques depends on the experience and discretion of the surgeon. or financial situations of hospitals.
