Introduction: Work - life balance is important for the quality of life of nurses. Understanding the components of work - life balance will help in better management for nurses.
Research objectives: To analyze the exploratory factors of work - life balance of nurses in the tertiary care hospitals.
Research methodology: The sample consisted of 330 nurses in tertiary care hospitals, using a stratified random sampling method. The research instrument was a questionnaire on work - life balance of nurses, which had a content validity index of .94 and an overall reliability of .96. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis. Factor extraction was performed using principal component analysis with orthogonal rotation using the varimax method.
Results: The findings revealed that the factors of work - life balance among nurses consisted of 7 components: 1) Work and non - work role conflicts factor, comprising 13 variables, explaining 19.22% of the variance; 2)Family support factor, comprising 5 variables, explaining 9.16% of the variance; 3) Supervisor support factor, comprising 5 variables, explaining 9.14% of the variance; 4) Time adequacy factor, comprising 5 variables, explaining 8.87% of the variance; 5) Family involvement factor, comprising 4 variables, explaining 6.95% of the variance; 6) Workplace involvement factor, comprising 3 variables, explaining 5.63% of the variance; 7) Work - life satisfaction factor, comprising 3 variables, explaining 5.46% of the variance. These 7 factors together collectively explaining 64.46% of the variance in work - life balance among nurses.
Implications: This study can be used as foundational information to promote work - life balance for nurses, which contributes to their good quality of life.
Conclusion: The findings from this study on the components of work - life balance among nurses provide valuable information for nursing administrators to formulate policies and develop strategies to promote work - life balance. This will ensure nurses to achieve a work - life balance that aligns with their needs in the future.
