The Development of a Mental Health Care Integrative Program for Military Personnel in the Three Southern Border Provinces

Introduction: The unrest situation in the southern border provinces has greatly impacts the mental health of military personnel operating in the area, necessitating a proper supportive program.
Research objectives: 1. To develop an integrated mental health care program for military personnel operating in the three southern border provinces, 2. To Examine the effects of the program, and 3. To study the satisfaction with the use of the program.
Research methodology: Research and development was conducted in 6 steps: 1. Study the current and desired conditions and analyze the data from mental health assessment results, In - depth interviews, and focus groups. 2. Outline the program, application design, and user manual for the application. 3. Check the suitability of the program by 5 experts. 4. Improve the program. 5. Try out the program. 6. Improve the program as a prototype. The research instruments used in this study included a mental health screening form, a mental health self - care behavior assessment form, and a questionnaire on satisfaction with the use of the program. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t - tests.
Results: The integrated mental health care program for military personnel in the three southern border provinces developed was an application (prototype) with the following components: registration, mental health screening, assessment of mental health self - care behaviors, E - learning lessons,and satisfaction assessment form. The experimental group had a significantly higher post - test score of mental health screening than the pretest score. The mental health self - care behavior scores, both each aspect and overall scores, of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. The pre - test scores and post - test scores, both each aspect and overall scores of the experimental group were statistically different. The average satisfaction score of using the program was at a very good level.
Conclusion: Using the mental health care integrated program for military personnel in the three southern border provinces resulted in mental health and self - care behavior improvements.
Implications: Proper Training and studying the manual for implementing the integrated mental health care program is required for optimum benefits. People in charge of personnel, commanders,and military trainers can use the program for military personnel throughout the duration of their operations: before, during and after the mission is done.
