Relationships between Predisposing Factors, Enabling Factors, and Reinforcing Factors with Chronic Disease Prevention Behaviors among People Aged 15 Years and Older in the Urban Community, Mueang District, Buriram Province

Abstract

Introduction: Predisposing factors, enabling factors, and reinforcing factors are important for effectively promoting chronic disease prevention behaviors.

Research objectives: To study the predisposing factors, enabling factors, and reinforcing factors that can be used to prevent, chronic disease among people aged 15 years and older in the urban community, Mueang district, Buriram province.

Research methodology: This is a descriptive study. The sample group consisted of 422 people aged 15 years and over in the community in Mueang district, Buriram province Data was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient statistics.

Results: Predisposing and reinforcing factors were significantly correlated with chronic disease prevention behaviors at the .05 level. In terms of predisposing factors, gender had a low negative correlation (r = -.043, p < .05), while educational level had a positive correlation (r = .84, p < .05), and stress level had a low positive correlation (r = .075, p < .05) with chronic disease prevention behaviors. Similarly, reinforcing factors, such as environmental care, had a positive correlation (r = .30, p < .05) with chronic disease prevention behaviors. In terms of enabling factors, income is significantly (r = .049, p < .05) with chronic disease prevention behavior.

Conclusion: The levels of chronic disease prevention among the sample group were moderate level. The predisposing factors, including gender, educational level, and stress, enabling factors, income, as well as the reinforcing factor of environmental care, were correlated with chronic disease prevention behaviors among individuals aged 15 and older in the urban community of Mueang district, Buriram province.

Implications: Nurses can use the information for this study to educate the general public as a guideline for preventing chronic disease through behavior modification.
