Effects of PBRI’s Model Implementation on Prevention and Control for Non - Communicable Disease among People Living in Muang Phayao, Phayao Province

Abstract

Introduction: Non - communicable diseases (NCDs) are a cause of death worldwide. Therefore, screening, prevention, and control remain the best methods for managing these diseases. The concept of the Praboromarajchanok Institute model or PBRI’s Model is an effective method for managing NCDs in present.

Research objectives: To compare knowledge, attitudes, and prevention - control skills of NCDs before and after using the concept of PBRI’s Model and compare SPB, DPB, DTX before and after using the concept of PBRI’s Model in people Bantom Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao province.

Research methodology: This quasi - experimental research was one group pre-posttest design. Seven hundred and two participants were selected by a simple random sampling. Data were collected during April to November, 2023. The research instruments were questionnaires developed by the researcher. The content validity were tested and approved by five experts, with a result of .94. The reliability of knowledge, attitude and prevention - control skill questionnaires were .97, .87, and .87 resprctively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and paired sample t - test.

Results: When comparing before and after using the concept of PBRI’s Model, the mean blood pressure of the sample group decreased: systolic blood pressure (SBP) (Mbefore = 131.94, Mafter = 128.71, p < .001); dyastolic blood pressure (DPB) (Mbefore=79.16, Mafter=78.08, p < .001) and dextrostix (DTX) (Mbefore=100.96, Mafter=98.71, p < .001). Moreover, mean scores on knowledge, attitudes,
and prevention - control skills of NCDs significantly increased (p < .001, p < .001 and p < .001 respectively).

Conclusion: The concept of PBRI’s model can be effectively applied in screening, prevention, and control for the risk of NCDs.

Implications: Healthcare providers can apply the concept PBRI’s model to screen the severity of various diseases in communities such as depression, stress, and metabolic syndrome.
