Abstract

Introduction: Older people with health problems and low ability to care for themselves have high dependency needs. If older people are treated well using a good model, it will promote potential and a better quality of life and reduce the burden on society.

Research objectives: To develop a model of integrating psychosocial theories of aging with local wisdom and to study the effects of using the model on older people's potential and quality of life.

Research Methodology: Research and development are divided into two phases:Phase 1: Development of a model for integrating psychosocial ageing theories with local wisdom using qualitative research and development methods; Phase 2: Studied the model's results by quasi-experimental research. Participants included 60 older adults from The Pho Subdistrict community. The research experiment tool is the model of integrating psychosocial theories of aging with local wisdom. Data collection tools included the potential assessment and quality of life assessment form, in which content validity was checked and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was .91 and .88, respectively. Data were analyzed using Paired sample t-test and MANOVA.

Results: The results of the model development showed that using a model of integrating psychosocial theories of aging with local wisdom consists of 5 elements: 1) the objectives of using the model, 2) basic concepts for development, 3) principles of promoting potential and quality of life, 4) the process of promoting active aging and life quality, and 5) the results of the model. The results of using the model show that older adults in the experimental group had higher potential and quality of life post-experiment than pre-experiment (M = 89.07, SD = 6.35 and M = 106.30, SD = 11.21, respectively), and higher than the control group (M = 106.30, SD = 11.21) significantly (p<.01)

Conclusions: A model of integrating psychosocial theories of aging with local wisdom increases older people's active ageing and quality of life.

Implications: Utilize and implement the finding of the model integrating psychosocial theories of aging with local wisdom to other communities.
